Avoid Selling On ebay These Items

1.Low priced items: Avoid selling items priced for $10 or less. Let me give you an example: if you decide to sell wedding favors. The price of one favor is $1.50 in your ebay store and in the local store is $3.00. It looks like a great deal for the buyer, if he decides to buy from your ebay store. However this is not the truth because the buyer will need to pay you a shipping price which might me 5 or 6 dollars more [ we all know that there is a basic shipping fee regardless the weight of our package]. To avoid this problem, you can sell low priced items as wholesale lots or in big quantities. For example, ups ground charge you 5 dollars for the first 1/2 pound of weight..so if the weight of 20 favors together is less than 1/2 pound, you will pay 5 dollars shipping only..This means that shipping cost of one favor is exactly the same as 20 favors.

2. High demand products: Some new sellers when starting on ebay go for high selling products like digital cameras and playstations. The problem with these products is that there are lot of ebay powersellers who are engaged in this business.  Those sellers have built strong reputation for years and the competition will be difficult especially if you are starting. Due to their high volume of sales, they usually get their products at very low wholesale prices and it will be difficult to beat their prices.. Try to find product niche where the competion is moderate. Believe me,  there are products out there that you can make a lot of profit out them and the competition is not that big.

3. Products you may like, but others not: Sometimes you might have a certain product that you personally like but be sure before you sell it that buyers will like it also. Always do a search at ebay pulse for products that buyers are searching for. This will give you a rough idea on what to sell.

4. Item that require certain precautions during shipping: as a beginner avoid fragile items like glasswares. These items carry a risk of damage during shipping and may result in unsatisfied customer, a negative feedback or money loss. You don't want this to happen when you begin on ebay. Later on when you gain more experience in wrapping and packaging, you can start selling them.

5. Prohibited items by ebay: Before listing your item, make sure it's allowed on eBay and find out if there are specific rules and guidelines on how it should be listed. Make sure your listing follows these guidelines. If it doesn't, it may be removed, and you may be subject to a range of other actions, including restrictions of your buying and selling privileges and suspension of your account. These are examples of some restricted items:

  • alcohol (see also wine)
